Frieze Art Fair – in Regents Park this weekend.

The annual Frieze Art Fair takes place in Regent’s Park, London, and as last year it includes the Copenhagen-based galleries “Andersen’s Contemporary”
and “Galleri Nicolai Wallner”.

These galleries have been crucial for the development of the contemporary art scene in Denmark and present some of the most well known Danish artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Jeppe Hein, Jens Haaning, and Elmgreen & Dragset. The latter will also be visiting London with his band ‘Asia Today’ during Frize, playing the Bistrotheque on 18 October.

In addition, Danish artist-activists Superflex has been commissioned to create the Frieze Film 2009 as part of the “Frieze Program”.

Taking as their inspiration a passage in Lars von Trier’s film Epidemic, Superflex’s new films will approach the economic crisis as a psychosis to be treated therapeutically. Subjects will undergo hypnosis to take them through the various stages of a financial meltdown.

Frieze Film will be shown in Channel 4’s innovative ‘3 Minute Wonder’ slot during the week of Frieze Art Fair from Monday 12 October to Thursday 15 October, at 7.55pm and onsite at the fair.

Another semi-Danish participant at this year’s London art fairs is the Copenhagen-based David Risley Gallery, showcasing at the Zoo Art Fair in new surroundings in the East End. The fair includes a total of 57 galleries that are less than six years old, project spaces, artist collectives, curatorial groups and publications.
