12 January 2004

AMSTERDAM — A man has been arrested for the shooting and critically wounding of a woman after an argument broke out during a visit to new parents in Zaandam on Sunday night.

The 31-year-old victim was an ex-partner of the new father and decided to visit him and the new mother, but an argument developed over claims that belongings had been unequally divided.

After the argument ended, the woman left the apartment, but returned later to pick up a mobile phone she had forgotten, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

But the argument started again and a male partner of another couple who was also visiting the new parents and their baby is alleged to have shot the victim.

The woman is in a critical condition in hospital and the 31-year-old man who was visiting the new parents has been arrested. He remains in detention.
