PARIS, Feb 10 (AFP) – Paris is considering extending the hours of operation of its famous Metro system on weekends to ease the transport needs of residents and tourists spending a night on the town, the public authority which runs the service said Tuesday.
“Politicians have asked us to extend by an hour the Metro’s running on Friday and Saturday nights,” a spokesman for the RATP authority said.
Currently, the subway system closes down every night just after 1:00 am for four hours to allow for maintenance and because of staffing requirements.
The spokesman said the network was capable of staying open later, but that the drivers of the underground trains may be opposed to the idea.
