PARIS – Anti-terrorist investigators were probing Wednesday a bomb blast which ripped through an apartment west of Paris, injuring a man who was handling the explosives, sources said.
The man who lived in the apartment in Clichy-la-Garenne was seriously injured in the blast, the sources close to the investigation said.
Firefighters had been called out to the flat early in the morning, just before the blast tore through the apartment. A man, apparently in a "desperate state" had blown himself up, said the source.
Town mayor Gilles Catoire said a large amount of explosives had been found in the apartment, which was part of a building owned by the post office.
The victim was a postal worker, said one of the mayor’s deputies, Rodolphe Oppenheimer.
