PARIS, Dec 15 (AFP) – The Eiffel Tower is to turn red for a week next month to mark the Chinese New Year on January 24, Paris officials said Monday.
Giant lights will bathe the monument from that date as part of celebrations that will also include a traditional Chinese dragon parade along the Champs-Elysees, the head of the company that manages the tower, Jean-Bernard Bros, told AFP.
Bros, who is also deputy tourism official at Paris City Hall, said the lights would still be working when Chinese President Hu Jintao visits the French capital on January 27.
France in October launched a 10-month programmeme of cultural events dedicated to China.
