Police break up Czech sex gang

11 December 2003

PRAGUE – Czech police said they had broken up a pimping gang that kidnapped young Czech women for prostitution and making pornographic films in Germany, Austria and Spain.

The gang’s five members had been trafficking women for the sex trade since 1998, police spokeswoman Blanka Kosinova said.

Police confirmed 25 cases of women who were lured from their Czech homes with promises of jobs in western Europe as dancers or singers.

The alleged ringleader is a 45-year-old Czech man recently arrested on an Interpol warrant in Barcelona, Kosinova said. Each suspect faces up to 12 years in prison.
