France’s inflation highest since 1992

Paris, France – Although French consumer prices fell marginally in January, year-on-year inflation reached its highest point since 1992 at 2.8pc, the national statistics office INSEE said Thursday.

The reason for the 0.1pc decline in consumer prices in January was the annual winter sales, in which the cost of clothing, shoes and, to a lesser extent, other manufactured products was substantially lower.

However, the food and energy prices continued to rise, INSEE said. As a result, inflation for the past three months was up by 0.8pc.
