Wet second day at Werchter

29 June 2007

BRUSSELS – The second day of the Rock Werchter festival was off to a rainy start this morning.

Just after 11 am the gates opened to a second festival day on a field cleaned of debris from yesterday’s festivities. The Van Jets opened on the main stage.

“The only thing that matters is playing here. I am happy the time has come,” Johannes Verschaeve said before taking the stage.

The Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys are on the programme for today. Lily Allen, Sioen and Gabriel Rios, and others, will all be playing the Pyramid Marquee.

Today’s main event however will be festival closer Pearl Jam. The group will perform for the first time at Rock Werchter. Pearl Jam cancelled its performance at the festival in 2000 after an incident at the Roskilde festival in which nine festival goers were trampled to death during their performance.
