Water consumption up 15 percent

BRUSSELS – Because of the warm weather, water consumption last weekend was up 15 percent compared to the same period last year.

This emerged from figures from the Flemish Water Supply Company (VMW).

“Normally we don’t see this kind of peak consumption until June and July,” says Kathleen De Schepper, spokesperson for the VMW. “But there’s no reason to worry about shortages at the moment. There are plenty of reserves as a result of the extremely wet winter.”
