BRUSSELS – The trade unions representing postal workers have called on all employees of De Post to go on strike on Friday 25 May.
The workers are unhappy with the recruitment policy, the remote transfers of some workers, and the reorganisation within the company.
Problems with the Georoute computer programme used to draw up postal routes have also led to unrest in some cities. Postal workers in the centre of Ghent went on strike last week already.
A pamphlet was handed out at all post offices in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia on Tuesday calling on workers to strike next Friday. Many are reportedly planning to do so.
The unions and management of De Post will meet next Wednesday. If solutions to the problems are not found, a 24 hour strike will be called, with effect from Friday morning.
A demonstration on the Muntplein in Brussels may also be organised.
