24 July 2007

BRUSSELS – The local fire brigade in Tubeke in Waals-Brabant reported that the municipality was struck by a mini tornado at about 11 p.m. on Monday.

The mini-tornado struck near the ponds called “Les Etangs de Coeurcq”. The phenomenon was local in nature. The numerous weeping willows nearby the pond were damaged. A number of heavy branches broke off, causing an electricity failure.

Some roofs in the neighbourhood were also damaged. The tornado was not accompanied by heavy rainfall. By Tuesday afternoon the municipal services were able to reconnect the electricity, while the fire brigade helped to repair the damage done to the roof of a house.
