Suspicious death on train

13 July 2007

BRUSSELS – A young man died in unclear circumstances on the train between Antwerp and Brussels on Thursday night. The young man suddenly became unwell and fellow travellers alerted the train conductor. The train personnel called the emergency services but the boy was already dead by the time the train reached the next station of Vilvoorde.

Police and justice officials regard the incident as suspicious, but have been able to gather little information about what actually happened. When the police arrived on the scene all the witnesses of the death had already departed on another train.

The Brussels public prosecution department has ordered an autopsy in the meantime. It is hoped that this will shed more light on the cause of death. The identity of the young man has not been released.
