Strawberries too dear at supermarket

1 June 2007

BRUSSELS – Growers are not getting high prices for their strawberries at auction these days, but this doesn’t seem to be bringing prices in the supermarkets down at all.

One grower complains that he gets only 70 cents for 500 g of the berries while supermarkets like GB are selling them for about EUR 2.79.

The supermarket chain responded that the advertising flyers are printed out six weeks in advance and that this makes it difficult to adjust the price daily.
