BRUSSELS – Almost 200,000 passengers used Charleroi airport last month, it was reported on Friday.
It was the busiest month the airport has ever seen.
A total of 391,407 passengers travelled between July 1 and August 31, with 196,226 in August alone – an increase of 12 percent compared to last August.
Laurent Jossart, the managing director of BSCA which runs the airport, said the figure showed how far the airport had come since 2001.
He said in one month Charleroi had attracted as many passengers as in the whole of 1998.
He added that the new companies that have arrived at Charleroi are also meeting their individual targets.
Irish low cost carrier Ryanair is the airport’s biggest single customer
