BRUSSELS – Prince Filip is risking a summons from the Flemish government. The dispute centres on the furniture from the royal palace on the Meir in Antwerp.
Now that the palace is being renovated, Flanders wants the original furniture from the building returned. Filip took a number of pieces with him in the 1990s.
The royal family has remained silent for years upon being asked to return the items. The Flemish minister responsible for the matter, Geert Bourgeois, is running out of patience however.
If no solution has been found by September the Flemish government will hand the case over to an attorney. Prince Filip could then be taken to court in order to ascertain the ownership of the furniture.
