Passengers to face a weekend of bus strikes

20 May 2005

BRUSSELS – Bus drivers in Wallonia are on strike again, with industrial action expected to last until Monday.

On Friday morning, TEC drivers in western Hainaut voted not to work that day or on Saturday or Sunday.

They are to meet again on Monday to discuss future industrial action.

Workers are protesting a 1.1 percent salary rise and they also want more security measures to protect drivers from aggressive passengers.

Drivers were also on strike at bus depots at Mons and Eugies and voted in their general assembly to continue the strike until Monday.

At the TEC depot in La Louviere, drivers, bus conductors and mechanics were back at work on Friday after a day of industrial action on Thursday.
