Highest Belgian building celebrates 50th anniversary

To celebrate this anniversary, the National Pensions Office, which is housed in the South Tower, is treating one thousand people to a guided visit.

The South Tower measures 150 metres, which makes it the highest building in Belgium.

The tower was finished in 1967 and has always housed the National Pensions Office.

The windows were replaced between 1993 and 1996 and the interior received an update between 2003 and 2006.

In the past couple of years, the National Pensions Office has been trying to make the South Tower an “energy efficient” skyscraper.

Between 2009 and 2013, the CO2 emission amounted to 6000 tonnes, comparable to 1,600 households.
