BRUSSELS — Confessed French serial killer Michel Fourniret will be extradited from Belgium to France next Monday.
Justice Minister Laurette Onkelinx has now approved a court’s earlier decision to extradite Fourniret, commercial broadcaster VTM reported on Wednesday.
Fourniret is currently being detained in Vorst after being arrested in June 2003. He is suspected of up to 13 deaths. Most of his victims were young women.
His wife, Monique Olivier, was extradited to France in December and is being held in remand custody at the Laon jail to await trial.
Olivier is suspected of assisting various crimes committed by her husband.
Fourniret and Olivier will be placed on trial later this year in Charleville-Mezieres, France, because most of the crimes are alleged to have taken place in France.
French and Belgian judicial authorities agreed last year to stage a joint trial.
