BRUSSELS – Cyclist Frank Vandenbroucke was admitted to the Heilig Hart psychiatric centre in Ieper after another breakdown last weekend. Vandenbroucke had been staying with his parents in Ploegsteert after his suicide attempt in early June when he took an overdose of medicine at his home in Milan.
The cyclist arrived at the Ieper clinic to check himself in, accompanied by his father. Once at the facility however he changed his mind and wanted to leave. The 32-year-old started threatening staff at the clinic. The police were called to the scene.
Vandenbroucke was forcibly admitted because he posed a danger to himself and those around him. The justice of the peace will decide on Friday whether his compulsory stay will be prolonged.
