BRUSSELS — A two-year-old girl has died in the Sint-Jozef Hospital in Turnhout of sepsis, which is blood poisoning caused by meningococcal.
The parents have accused the doctor of failing to treat the girl properly, but the hospital has rejected the accusations.
The girl died on Saturday, newspaper ‘Het Laatste Nieuws’ reported.
Elsewhere, a six-year-old boy, Geoffrey, has died of a meningococcal type C infection. He was regularly seen at a playground in Jumet.
An eight-year-old boy who was diagnosed with meningitis on Saturday was also regularly seen at the playground.
He was admitted to the Notre-Dame Hospital in Charleroi, but is expected to live, newspaper ‘Het Gazet van Antwerpen’ reported on Tuesday.
Preventative medical treatment has been offered to the 350 children and 65 adults who came into contact with Geoffrey at the playground.
The playground was also disinfected and will remain closed until the start of August.
