AMSTERDAM — Police in the Dutch town of Voerendaal arrested a man, 48, who has been described as a ‘big fish’ in the drugs world.
The unnamed man is to be extradited to Belgium, where he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in jail for major drug offences, a Dutch police spokesperson said.
His car was stopped at a routine traffic check in Voerendaal on Friday because the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The man produced identity documentation that alerted police to the fact there was an international warrant for his arrest. The police spokesperson described the man as a “big fish” in the drugs world.
The man was arrested to await the finalisation of the extradition process.
