AMSTERDAM—Consumers have little or no choice of supermarket in parts of towns and cities including Amsterdam, The Hague and Breda. Albert Heijn’s leading position was recently reinforced by the takeover of 60 C1000 stores.
The NMa says it is unable to do anything about the growth of Albert Heijn. Other chains complain that Albert Heijn has all the best locations, but the company says its competitors often withdraw of their own accord from certain neighbourhoods because of security issues.
