AMSTERDAM – The Marechaussee and ministry of defence have launched an investigation after the death of two Dutch soldiers in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan this last weekend. The NOS reported this on Monday.
The Dutch troops were killed by friendly fire. Head of the armed forces General Dick Berlijn says that the situation was unclear and bad weather contributed to poor visibility.
Two separate groups of Dutch soldiers were involved in skirmishes with Taliban fighters near Deh Rawod. In addition to the two fatalities, another soldier lost his leg.
Hundreds of people have already signed the online condolences register.
